Not so long ago, I wrote an essay about my hometown Argao. I had the guts to disclose how a town can be so boring by reason of lack of amenities that would make life uncomplicated. Uncomplicated from my own vocabulary is defined as having the technology to run life faster than the usual rounds of a far away town.

This weekend I went home for a quick visit. Not counting the regular trips to grandpa’s house and grandma’s market depot, I had the chance to see a concert for a cause, featuring the Voice of Cebu, or shortly called Vox. It was held at the admired centuries-old town church.

Jesson, the founder and conductor of the group, did a good job of making the Argaoanons perceive how a multi-awarded choral group can be so benevolent by offering their talents for free, at least for a night. Perfect-- the right word to describe the show of the Vox. It did not just tickle the audience with the performance of a member who did a sort of Vhong Navarro impersonation. Through a series of jaw-dropping songs, each with a unique superiority yet comforting in substance, the audience couldn’t give much less than a thunderous applause. Seated among the crowd, I was the living witness of how Vox could easily bring a single soul to a level of attentiveness that only an impressed person could truly experience.

There were solemn songs. There were joyful ones. There were those that would keep you smiling all throughout. There were those that would make you shout YAHOOO! for more.

Proceeds of the concert went to the Argao Central Elementary School for the painting of the new buildings and repainting of the old ones.

As my final words, I admit, Argao is a beautiful town in the south, with beautiful people and beautiful sceneries to boast. That is probably the reason why many people, organizations or groups, with the best and biggest heart, like the Vox, would render their complimentary services to help and preserve one precious locality.

I was there. Am I just lucky or what!
